Roswell High School

Class of 2008

April 29, 2008

Dear Parents of Graduating Seniors,

It’s almost over!  The journey that your student began 13 years ago will be finished in a couple of weeks! These last few days will be busy.  This letter is a summary of all that is planned for the Class of 2008. We certainly want all seniors to participate in all of the activities; let’s work together to maintain appropriate school behavior.

Roswell High School is planning several events.  The main event is the actual graduation ceremony, which will be held Friday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the stadium of Roswell High School.  Students should arrive at school by 6:15 p.m. to line up.  Some other special events are Prom, Yearbook Dedication, Senior Picnic, Senior Honors Night, and the Senior Breakfast followed by graduation practice.

Upcoming events and activities:

The Hornet Envelope: Last year we began a new tradition at Roswell High school. In an effort to let our Seniors know how special they are to us, we would like to give each member of the Senior Class an envelope that is full of treasures from his/her family, friends and relatives. Here’s how we need your help. As soon as possible between now and May 5th, please gather from family, friends and relatives, letters, poems, recollections, etc. about your student that can be included in this special envelope and given to him/her at the senior breakfast on the day of graduation. Ask people who write to include memories, things about the student that are special to them, pictures and/or things that might be significant to the graduate. Once you have gathered these items (They must fit in an 8 by 11 envelope) please bring them to the front office of the high school NO LATER THAN MONDAY, MAY 5TH. We will take care of putting your items in an envelope for your student. Please keep these items a secret from Seniors so that we can surprise them with this treasure at the Senior breakfast.

Prom: Prom will be held on Saturday, May 3rd from 8:00 until 11:00 P.M., at the Georgia Railroad Freight Depot in Atlanta. Tickets will go on sale April 24th – May 1st during lunches. No tickets will be sold on Friday and absolutely NO tickets will be sold at the door. Cost of tickets on April 24th and 25th are $50 each. On April 28th, 29th and 30th, they are $60 each. On May 1st the price is $65 each.

Yearbook Dedication and Senior Picnic:

The yearbook dedication and senior picnic will take place on Wednesday, May 14th  after 3rd period.  Following the dedication yearbooks will be distributed to the seniors. They will then proceed outside where the senior picnic will take place.  Announcements will be made at a later date with details on the picnic.

Baccalaureate: This is an inspirational service sponsored by parents of the Roswell High School community.  Rehearsal will be Wednesday, May 14, at 4:00 at Roswell United Methodist Church, 814 Mimosa Boulevard.  The Baccalaureate service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, also at Roswell United Methodist Church.  Students should arrive at the church at 2:00 p.m. Caps and Gowns will be worn at this service.  A reception will be held at Bulloch Hall immediately following the service.  Baccalaureate is not a school event or function.

Honors Night: This special evening will be on Wednesday, May 21st, 7:00 p.m., Roswell High School Auditorium.  This is an evening set aside to acknowledge seniors who have been recognized for achievement in academics, athletics, or leadership.  Invitations will be mailed to those students being honored and their parents; however, all are invited to attend.   A copy of all award and scholarship notifications must be given to the secretary in the Counseling Office by May 8th  so you may receive an invitation. Seniors will assemble in the auditorium lobby at 6:30. Students will wear cap and gown for Honors Night.  Please note on your scholarship form if you will be accepting or declining the scholarship offer.

Alternate Plans for Graduation: Since we have a strong desire to graduate on Friday we will wait out the weather up until but no later than 9:00 p.m. At any time up until 9:00 the Administration and the Graduation Committee may decide that the ceremony needs to be postponed until Saturday.             with the letters A-L.

The Graduation Committee from 2008 has recommended the following: Whether a graduating senior, a family member or friend, or a Roswell High School staff member, graduation is a very special time for our community.  In an effort to maintain the integrity and excellence our community has come to expect of the Roswell High School Graduation ceremony, we ask your assistance with the following:

  • Remind graduates to dress appropriately for the occasion,
  • Remind graduates that cell phones should not be brought to the ceremony, and
  • Remind graduates as well as family and friends that while we encourage celebrations of individuals during the ceremony, it is important to be sensitive to all guests’ desire to hear their son’s and/or daughter’s diploma being conferred.

Many exciting things have been planned during the next few days. Let’s continue working together so that we can enjoy this wonderful time in the life of your student.  The safety of all of our graduates requires the school and the home to work as partners as we celebrate together the accomplishments of the Class of 2008.

Sincerely,

Edward J. Spurka, Ed. D.
